Description
A warm, comforting dessert ready in 30 minutes, featuring spiced tender pears under a crunchy, buttery oat topping. Perfect for weeknights or special occasions like Grandparents Day.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4–5 medium pears (Bosc or Anjou preferred), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss sliced pears with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and a pinch of salt. Let sit for a few minutes.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized chunks.
- Spread the spiced pears evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the oat topping loosely over the pears without pressing down.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Tent with foil if browning too quickly.
- Let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving to allow the filling to thicken.
Notes
Use cold butter for a crispy topping. If using frozen pears, thaw and drain excess liquid. Can be made gluten-free by using certified gluten-free oats and flour. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
